A Call for a National Jewish Conversation

By Steven Windmueller

eJewish Philanthropy, October 12, 2009

Windmueller calls for a serious exploration of how the Jewish community's religious and communal system should address the array of social, economic and political concerns confronting today's community. As a result of the changing image of who American Jews are and what they represent, he argues that a different type of Jewish marketplace needs to emerge that must be seen as transparent and committed to experimentation and innovation. He argues for a long-overdue national dialogue -- a summit of Jewish leaders -- to discuss and reassess the status and communal purpose of the Jewish community and possible solutions to some of his largest concerns for Jewish continuity.
