On the American Jewish Future

By Steven Windmueller

March 12, 2009

In a speech accepting the Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk Chair in Jewish Communal Service, Windmueller lauds Gottschalk's activism, insights and career contributions and discusses several issues facing the contemporary Jewish community. He argues that as a result of economic unraveling, contemporary Jewry is facing the greatest institutional challenges of all time and asks: what will be the core sustaining features of the Jewish enterprise in a post-recessionary era?
