Councilman Tests Latino-Jewish Relations in California

By Rebecca Spence

Forward Association, March 19, 2008

The author uses a lawsuit over allegedly antisemitic remarks made by a city councilman (Jose Hernandez) in Los Angeles County's San Fernando Valley as an entry point to discuss community relations between Jews and the West Coast's burgeoning Latino population. Steven Windmueller offers potential sources for the antagonistic relations between the two communities as well as possible explanations for the disproportionately high incidence of antisemitism in the Latino community.
