The Changing Dimensions of Jewish Community Relations in America

By Steven Windmueller

Steven Windmueller, 2009

The author explores the changes taking place in the field of Jewish political advocacy. He argues that the impact of changing social patterns of affiliation, giving, and commitment shaped in part by a new generation of Jews has fundamentally altered the environment of community relations. He discusses the emergence of "red and blue state voices" who are competing to define American Jewry's core interests and explains the decision-making processes associated with these two distinctive systems. Ultimately, he argues that the return to a shared agenda is an essential ingredient for the welfare of the Jewish community.
