The Peoplehood Index Project

By Yoav Shoham, Nimrod Goor

International School for Jewish Peoplehood Studies (SJPS) at Beit Hatfutsot, October 2009

In recent years, many, if not most, Jewish organizations have put effort into addressing the weakening of the ties within and among Jewish communities. The authors explain that despite these efforts, the impact of these organizations is limited. The Peoplehood Index Project (PI) was designed to address the missing pieces and is based, in part, on a standardized study of Jewish communities around the world. Its aim is to measure the degrees to which Jewish communities know, care about and interact with each other. The authors briefly summarize the process behind the results of the pilot study and outline the PI Project's path for the future.
