Marshall Sklare: An Assessment

By Charles S. Liebman

Brandeis University Press, February 28, 2006

Liebman examines the forces that shaped Marshall Sklare's contribution to the field of American Jewish sociology. With the guidance of Sklare's autobiography, Liebman assesses several areas of influence: the intellectual role models present at early stages of his intellectual career, the study of history as background to subsequent studies in Jewish sociology, post-doctorate employment by the American Jewish Committee for thirteen years, and a career in Jewish environments. He then moves to explore how Sklare shaped the discipline and his influence on American Jews.
