In memoriam: David Daube

By Stephen Passamaneck

Association for Jewish Studies (AJS), Fall 1999

A tribute to recently-deceased Prof. David Daube. The author states that his contributions to the field of Jewish studies, particularly in biblical law and early rabbinic law, through the marshaling of form criticism, historical insight, and comparative law and linguistics for textual analysis, are now recognized as standard and necessary approaches for any serious research in either area.
