F-E-G-S: A Story of Family, Continuity, Innovation, and Change

By Gail A. Magaliff, Al Miller, Stuart Oltchick, Joseph Stein Jr.

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), Fall 2010

F-E-G-S is the story of an organization founded 75 years ago in the midst of the Great Depression to help fi nd jobs for unemployed Jews. It is the story of an organization whose foundation was laid by a steadfast commitment to Jewish values and whose signifi cant growth has been fueled by innovation and valued partnerships. Throughout its history its iron rod has been a set of principles centered on the values of tzedekah, parnossah, and tikkun olam: a belief in the desire and ability of people to achieve independence and of the importance of giving hope to those who face formidable obstacles in their lives.
