American Jewish-Israeli Relations: History, Current Issues, and the Role of the American Jewish Committee

By Gary E. Rubin

American Jewish Committee (AJC), October 1987

This report illuminates the underlying factors of American Jewish-Israeli relations. To contribute to a better understanding of these relations as they stand today, the author offers a historical analysis, focusing mainly on the two sides' perception of Zionism in the past two hundred years, and demonstrating what separates these communities and also what binds them together. In order to complete the picture, the report describes the main issues that are at the center of today's discussion on American Jewish-Israeli relations.
