Liberal Judaism Needs Standards

By Walter Jacob

Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), December 1995

This article, taken from Reform Judaism, is the second of three contributions in a section on "Jewish Individualism and Collective Identity." The author, a Reform rabbi, calls the Reform Movement to forfeit some of its individual freedom, and accept a collective standard of mitzvot (commandments). He believes that religious standards among the members of the movement can rise if Reform Judaism provides more governance to its members.
