Synagogue Membership: What's the Deal?

By Sara Moore Litt

Josh Rolnick, The Sh'ma Institute, February 2012

The author describes her experience with B'nai Jeshurun, a synagogue in New York, in which she served in a number of leadership capacities. She states that despite the high cost of membership at the synagogue, more people keep joining. This is because the synagogue has become a place where people can confront the central questions of their existence.
