Zionist Institutions Must Adapt to Reality

By Eric H. Yoffie

Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), June 1998

This article, by president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, is an excerpt from his address to the World Zionist Congress in 1997. He believes that the young generation is losing its support for Israel as a result of feeling less "Jewish" on a larger scale, and that the Zionist Movement should aim at a stronger and more inclusive Judaism. He calls on the Zionist Movement to initiate a move toward the ideals of spiritual Zionism and to invest more in Jewish education and synagogue life.
