A Tradition of Innovation: A Letter From the Guest Editors

By Jason Soloway, Ariel Groveman Weiner

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), Spring 2011

The guest editors of this issue of the Journal introduce the topic of innovation in Jewish organizations. They describe how as foundation professionals, they meet with leaders of organizations of all shapes and sizes, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, and have come to realize that everyone faces the same challenge: How do we connect with and become relevant to the next generation of stakeholders, while at the same time, remain true to the values and traditions of our core group of supporters? It is a double bind that is difficult to navigate and one that has kept professionals, volunteers, and consultants fully occupied. Yet this difficult challenge also presents opportunities to think creatively and create an integrated vision for the future. Today we can celebrate innovation while also respecting tradition.
