The authors describe how their organization, Hillel, has implemented a strategic plan that has reshaped the organization for the Millennial generation. The centerpiece of this plan is a new approach to engagement that goes beyond Hillel's previous work in reaching out to uninvolved students. Hillel has made the transition from an organization that emphasized affiliation to one that fosters Jewish meaning; from exclusivity in leadership to inclusivity; and from an emphasis on breadth of outreach alone to an organization that seeks to double the number of involved Jewish students while also giving them depth. By offering Jewish students meaningful Jewish experiences in college, Hillel seeks to provide tools for their Jewish future: positive Jewish memories, Jewish educational resources (knowledge), Jewish self-confidence. and a sense of Jewish community/peoplehood. These four attributes will continue to help students own their Jewish experiences and strengthen their commitment to living as Jewish adults.
