Demographic Profile of the Sydney Jewish Community (1987)

By Gary Eckstein

Jewish Communal Appeal (JCA), New South Wales Jewish Communal Appeal, June 1987

The Jewish community has always accepted that it must act to ensure that certain fundamental responsibilities are undertaken for the benefit of all its members regardless of individual capacity or commitment. In order to plan and provide services, the Jewish Communal Appeal needs accurate statistics to prevent subjective feelings from replacing objective knowledge. Demographic statistics are critical for evaluating the professional approach to services planning. This study estimates the population of persons who consider that their religious denomination is Jewish.
