Blog Post: The Rationale of the Jewish State

By Leonard Fein

Americans for Peace Now, 2008

Leonard Fein recounts with sadness a panel he sat on at a Jewish Social Justice conference, about connection to Israel. A fellow panelist, sharing many of the same commitments to both Jewish Identity and progressive social Justice had come to the conclusion that the Jewish nature of Israel makes it inherently undemocratic, and hence did not believe in the existence of the Jewish state. Fein rebuts this claim and offers his thoughts on reconciling progressive politics with the Zionist mission.
