The Offense of the Defense

By Leonard Fein

Moment Magazine, December 1978

Fein vehemently argues against statements made by Orthodox leaders regarding religious practices and behaviors. He argues that the practice of encouraging non-Orthodox Jews to become ba'alei t'shuvah (encouraging them to become Orthodox) is unkind, intolerant, and not good for the Jewish community. He promotes acceptance, open-mindedness, and grace within the Jewish community to ensure its survival.
