Ma'yan Journey - Fall 1999

Ma'yan, Fall 1999

The first section of this issue of Journey approaches the High Holidays from a personal perspective. It offers various feminists' views of teshuvah (return/repentance). The second section begins by approaching the holiday of Sukkot (literally, "booths") from a new angle. It is rooted in personal experience but uses that experience as a means for affecting change on a communal and national level. The changemaker profile, highlighting Sharon Burde, included in this section is meant to inspire activism by way of example, as is the report from the frontlines of Ma'yan's tzedakah collective for young women. The purpose of this issue is to illustrate that the internal and the external are deeply connected for women.
