Marching on Umm al-Fahm

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2009

Two demonstrations in Umm al-Fahm, just days apart, show the two paths Israel and Palestine might still travel down, and no one knows which way they will go. The first, a violent and sordid affair led by a former disciple of Meir Kahane shows the rift between Israel's Jewish and Arab citizens. But just days later was a counter to this provocation. They came with signs of friendship and inclusion, and they were greeted by the residents with flowers. Which future does Israel belong to?
