Our Jerusalem, Both Heavenly And Earthly

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2010

There are two Jerusalems - the Heavenly Jerusalem and the Earthly Jerusalem -and they seem to slip farther apart by the day. The quotidian Jerusalem is a divided city, split both physically and emotionally, by stone walls that divide the quarters of the Old City and by walls built up by anger, violence, occupation and terrorism. And yet the idea of Heavenly Jerusalem must remain, for the loss of its redemptive promise is too sad to contemplate.
