Contact: The Journal of the Jewish Life Network / Steinhardt Foundation -- Reshaping our Synagogues and Revamping our Attitudes

By Lawrence A. Hoffman, Edgar M. Bronfman, J.J. Greenberg, Irving ("Yitz") Greenberg

Steinhardt Foundation for Jewish Life, Fall 1999

This issue of Contact examines the role, function and relevance of the contemporary synagogue in Jewish life. The authors all agree that the synagogue remains vital to the Jewish experience, but all also agree that some degree of change is necessary to allow synagogues to serve their congregations' needs. Authors suggest various musical, structural, attitudinal and spiritual reforms, while suggesting some elements of traditional synagogues ought to be retained.
