"Progressive" Jewish Thought and the New Anti-Semitism

By David A. Harris, Alvin H. Rosenfeld

American Jewish Committee (AJC), 2006

The author examines the phenomenon of antisemitism and self-hatred among Jews of the radical left, exploring the content of their ideas and how those ideas relate to other ideologies with whom these thinkers are in alliance. The author details how these thinkers move far past criticism of Israeli actions and deep into rejection of the very existence of a Jewish state at all, and even a rejection of Jews as Jews. These Jews, the author argues, are "proud to be ashamed to be Jews."
