At least half of non-Orthodox American Jews are uncoupled in two ways, the authors assert: first they are unmarried, and second, they are disengaged from organized Jewry. The authors base their conclusions on a study of national survey data. But, they argue, this disengagement does not represent a distancing from being Jewish, but rather a dissatisfaction with the existing options for connecting Jewishly.
