A Projection of America as it Ought to Be: Zion in the Mind's Eye of American Jews

By Jonathan D. Sarna

Wayne State University Press, 1996

The author examines historic American Jewish images of Zion in detail, and argues that such images developed from and addressed the needs of American Jewry and were, as a result, out of touch with reality in the land of Israel. Over time, the author contends, this image became more and more an idealized dream world.
