Jewish Civilization and Polity in a Globalized World: A New Vision for Organized Jewry

By Daniel J. Elazar

Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), 1999

The author describes his prescription for renewing and invigorating world Jewry. He breaks Jewish culture down in to low, middle, and high culture, and names the fundamental values upon which any authentically Jewish agenda must rest: Torah, identification with the Jewish people as a whole, the community of Israel, and covenant. Attempts to foster Jewish civilization and culture must remain within the limits of the authentically Jewish, aim to heighten the Jewish character of experiences within those parameters, and aim to raise the cultural level in Jewish life from lower to higher.
