One More Article About Jewish Identity

By Lili Furman

JDC International Centre for Community Development, July 21, 2005

The author's viewpoint on Jewish identity rests on the belief that present Jewish identity can only structured and determined when one explores the ever-changing history of Jewish identity. She begins her argument by drawing upon Eirk Erikson's theories, which assert that a sense of group continuity is essential to the development of one's own identity. She then deepens her analysis by discussing Jewish history, and connecting her examination of community and Jewishness to Israel.
