Reuven Fischer: The Slightly Different Chabad Rabbi

By Julian Voloj

JDC International Centre for Community Development, December 2007

This article sheds light on Rabbi Reuven Fischer, who is known by the Jewish community on Second Life--a virtual world composed of frequent users who interact through virtual representations of themselves--as Gruven Reuven Greenberg. While Jewish organizations are struggling to attract members, the Jewish community in this virtual world is steadily growing, as there is a synagogue where users regularly attend to interact with their online friends, and even a Jewish island called Ir Shalom (City of Peace).
