The author aims to define the precise role of the history of modern Israel within contemporary Jewish education. He identifies a pronounced need for a current, sophisticated, and accessible set of texts to teach Jewish history. His findings show that there are no quality Jewish textbooks that can be classified as ideal or particularly good as an option to serve as a principal narrative of Jewish history for the secondary school classroom.
