Facing Infertility and Pregnancy Loss

By Rebecca T. Alpert

Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association (RRA), Spring 2000

The author reviews Nina Cardin's book on infertility and pregnancy loss, describing it as an invaluable resource for those dealing with these issues themselves, people close to them, and professionals who are giving them advice. The author claims that Cardin has found ancient and contemporary prayers and rituals to support all of the stages and experiences that infertility and pregnancy loss have. However, the author expresses concern that Cardin unnecessarily limits her audience to heterosexual Jewish couples, and also fails to acknowledge the difficulties of abortion.
