The Endangered Rabbi

By Arthur G. Schaefer, Eric Weiss

Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), 1999

This chapter of Board-Staff Relations for the 21st Century explores the role and situation facing rabbis in the Jewish community. The authors focus on the particular role rabbis play in promoting values of study, prayer and family and how it contrasts to their personal lives. The author goes to outline the rabbi's function from an old rabbinic handbook and then contrasts that with modern rabbinic curriculum which is largely the same.
