Services to the Jewish Personnel in the Armed Forces and to Hospitalized Veterans

By Aryeh Lev

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Communal Service, Spring 1970

Since the end of WWI, the Jewish Welfare Board (JWB) has assisted the United States Armed Forces in ministering to the needs of Jewish soldiers and their families. This support has taken the shape of training and supplying Jewish chaplains, providing ritual objects and Jewish education to soldiers and their families, and facilitating connections between Jewish soldiers and the Jewish community closest to them. JWB must maintain its commitment to enriching the Jewish experience of Jews in the military on-base and off, working with local communities to provide home-like comfort to the tens of thousands of Jewish servicemen.
