To Leave Your Mark

By Alfred Jospe

Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, 1973

The author argues that Hillel has left its mark in several important areas of Jewish life by focusing attention on the needs of the Jewish student; developing a new specialization, the profession of the Hillel director; building on the campus a "community of the different"; and by building bridges between the Jewish community and the Jewish members of the academic community. The author stresses that the most difficult task for Hillel's future will be to work with young people on an approach that will satisfy their spiritual aspirations as well as safeguard the unity and continuity of the Jewish people.
