The author discusses "The Impact on the Jewish Community of the Struggle for Equal Rights," also found in this issue of the journal. He highlights how most Jewish Community Centers have moved toward an open policy in terms of serving a larger community while maintaining the core commitment to Jewish constituents. The piece also questions what kind of new role centers can play with more open policies that may change who controls Jewish centers as well as who receives the services they provide. The piece also specifically explores what it might mean for Centers to have a particular role within civil rights movement while continuing to devote itself to Jewish purposes. The discussion concludes by affirming the importance of Centers in taking policy positions and to continue to partner with other groups to support efforts promoting equals rights.
