Message of B'nai B'rith President, Adolf Kraus

By Adolf Kraus

B'nai B'rith, Phillip Lax Archive, April 1925

The president of B'nai B'rith reports on the founding of Hillel at the University of Illinois in 1923 and B'nai B'rith's agreement to fund Hillel's expansion to other universities the following year. As a non-denominational organization, B'nai B'rith was uniquely positioned to give Hillel the support it needed, and within two years, results could be seen. Attendance at both Orthodox and Reform services increased, and students compete for leadership positions in the entirely student-driven organizations. The number and diversity of student committees shows the strength of Hillel at its first campuses, and the president encourages B'nai B'rith to continue its support of Hillel in the years to come.
