An Appraisal of the Current Needs of the American Jewish Community

By Manheim S. Shapiro

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Communal Service, Fall 1963

The author looks at the current needs of the American Jewish community and argues that the the prime Jewish communal need is a passionate love affair between American Jewry and the thousands of years of Jewish experience. Out of such a love will emerge that way of being Jewish in America which will both continue the line and give it new strengths for new conditions. Jewish communal workers have the opportunity to serve as both the matchmakers and midwives in this mating and fruition.
