Discussion of Mr. Lurie's Paper

By Harold Silver

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Social Welfare, September 1949

In this brief response to H.L. Lurie's article, "Jewish Community Organization- Functions and Structures," Harold Silver asks the question, should community leadership--professional and lay--have a philosophy of Jewish life and should it attempt to influence thinking and action in communal affairs along the lines of that philosophy? Furthermore, the author discusses his views of the relationship between the case worker and the central community organization.
