The Collection of Jewish War Statistics

By Julian Leavitt

American Jewish Committee (AJC), Jewish Publication Society (JPS), 1919

The author describes the efforts of the American Jewish Committee to document statistics and information regarding Jews serving in the American military during what would later be called World War I. These efforts began at the very outset of the war. He describes the methods used in gathering this information, with the help of the government and other Jewish organizations. Preliminary numbers indicate that Jewish participation in the war seemed to exceed proportional representation, the author concludes.
