Effective Preparation for Jewish Community Center Work

By Arnulf M. Pins, Bertram H. Gold

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Communal Service, Winter 1962

The authors present a detailed overview of current trends in the Jewish communal, Jewish social work and Jewish center fields, focusing on the developing mix of skills, knowledge, attitudes and experiences necessary for excellence in Jewish communal social work. While agreeing with other voices calling for more specialized courses of study for Jewish communal workers at the graduate level, the authors caution that the most important forms of preparation should come from in-service training programs provided by agencies themselves. Identifying the gaps in current center worker preparation, the authors advocate greater collaboration between agencies and educational programs.
