Hot is the New Cool

By Jay Michaelson

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), March 2008

The author discusses the changes in "Jewish cool" culture. In the new cool, nothing is taking for granted -- religion, gender, class or the social conventions that pass for identity. In the same way that the Jewish hipster cool was new and surprising in the past, postmodern mixes of identity, growth and vitality are among the characteristics of participants in this new subculture.
