Editor's Introduction to Rabbinic Life

By Susan Berrin

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), March 2009

Sh'ma's editor introduces this issue, which focuses on the rabbinate. Although the rabbinate should be a coveted leadership position, the "calling" to serve is often tempered by congregational horror stories. Over the past few years an array of programs have emerged that focus on rabbinic life beyond the seminary years. The editor asks a series of questions about the changes in the rabbinate.
