Courage to Create a Judaism of Meaning

By David Ellenson

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), November 2007

The author urges that what is needed today is an emphasis upon "Judaism of meaning" as opposed to a "Judaism of boundaries and borders." He states that the legacy that Isaac Mayer Wise bestowed upon Reform to address broad sectors of the community remains enduring. In addition, the future of Judaism in the U.S. depends upon the ability of the movement to provide leadership that will remain and revitalize Jewish community, worship, study, association and action in light of the conditions and values that shape our people today.
