Editor's Introduction to Peoplehood

By Susan Berrin

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), October 2006

Sh'ma's editor introduces this issue about what Jewish peoplehood might mean in the 21st century. She asserts that globalization and the relationship between Diaspora Jews and Israel are impacting our understanding of peoplehood, which transcends many fundamental Jewish assumptions. This issue offers multiple ways of creating a sense of membership and raises questions about how the principle of peoplehood might energize and organize Jews and Jewish communities.
