Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, has, since its inception, stood for the preservation of rights for all people and deeply abhors discrimination of any kind. Hadassah members understand the dangers of bigotry. Therefore, Hadassah recommends passage of the
following policy statement: All people, regardless of faith, sex and gender, race, disabilities, or sexual orientation deserve to be
treated with dignity. Hadassah abhors acts of violence, harassment or intimidation motivated by bias,
including sexual orientation and supports the passage of state and federal civil rights legislation to
protect against hate crimes and discrimination based on sexual orientation. Hadassah also expresses
its firm opposition to all forms of discrimination against persons based on sexual orientation.
Hadassah strongly opposes efforts at the federal and state level, whether through legislation,
referendum or constitutional amendment, that would selectively limit or deny civil liberties to samesex
couples and their families. Although Hadassah does not take a stand on the marriage of gay
couples, we believe that same-sex couples deserve equal protections under the law, comparable to
those afforded to heterosexual individuals and couples. Therefore, Hadassah expresses support for
government action that provides civil status to committed same-sex couples and their families equal
to the civil status provided to the committed relationships of men and woman and their families, with
all associated legal rights and obligations, both federal and state.
