Endthoughts: The Lure of Apocalyptic Visions and Religious Fundamentalism

By Walter S. Wurzburger

CLAL: the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, December 9, 1994

Walter S. Wurzburger argues that while fundamentalists crave and wait for the apocalypse, it is not possible to fight religious fundamentalism by an appeal to reason. He claims that the only way to combat such ideas is to demonstrate with passion the superiority of a moral and religious vision that does not sacrifice rationality, but rather employs it to enhance faith.
