Response to Prof. Steven M. Cohen, Recipient of the 2010 Marshall Sklare Award

By Sarah Bunin Benor

Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry (ASSJ), December 2010

Prof. Benor responds to Prof. Steven M. Cohen's keynote address, upon receiving the 2010 Marshall Sklare Award. As a collaborator and critic of Prof. Cohen, Benor remarks that Prof. Cohen is extremely generous with his time and energy and she admires how he seeks out collaborators who disagree with him. She states that although she agrees with Prof. Cohen that intermarriage has a decreasing effect on Jews' concern for Israel, engagement with ritual observance and Jewish organizations, and other important measures, it can also increase bridging social capital.
