Endthoughts: My Grandfather's Tefillin

By Edward M. Friedman

CLAL: the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, November 10, 1995

Edward M. Friedman tells the story of his grandfather's tefillin, which had been given to him after his bar mitzvah. When he eventually had to replace all the parts, he realized that even though the new pair no longer contained original elements from his grandfather's tefillin, he could still pass down the commitment to the mitzvot he had received from his grandfather.
