Keep the Territories and Still Stay Jewish

By Daniel Charles

Eugene Borowitz, December 9, 1977

While many are concerned about the Jewish and democratic character of Israel if Israel keeps its territorial gains of the Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and Gaza, the author suggests that Israel can keep these territories and remain a Jewish-majority state. He suggests increasing aliyah (Jewish immigration to Israel); subsidizing large Jewish families; increasing socioeconomic status and quality of life for Arab residents, so that Arab birthrates will naturally decrease; finally, the author argues, Palestinian nationalism will simply disappear.
